Lifeboat

Cobham Players production of “Lifeboat” achieves further recognitiion

To those who came to see our Spring production of “Lifeboat” and “Dad’s Army”, may we say “thank you”. We hope you had a great evening.  The show was very well received and will hopefully support our reputation for innovative and enjoyable drama.

Funds raised for a good cause

As both plays had a wartime theme, we raised funds for “Help For Heroes” by donating £1 from each ticket sold and deploying willing assistants with collecting tins!  We are pleased to say that we raised £350, which has been sent to “Help For Heroes”.  Again, our thanks to those who contributed so generously.

More awards for “Lifeboat”

“Lifeboat” is the moving story of two girls who clung for 19 hours to an upturned lifeboat after their evacuation ship, SS City of Benares, was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the North Atlantic in September 1940.

In March 2010 we entered the play in the Elmbridge Drama Festival, winning through to the Quarter Finals of the All-England competition. Lifeboat received great praise from the adjudicator and achieved two awards: Rose Bowl Award for Runner-up Best Play and the Christine Britton Trophy for Technical Merit.Lifeboat

On 12th May it was performed again in the Leatherhead Festival, competing for the Sir Michael Caine Drama Awards. The hard work and outstanding performances of the two actresses, Samantha Myers and Millie Hart, were rightly rewarded with the Best Actress Award – which they won jointly.

They are seen here (left) receiving their award from Sir Michael himself at the Saturday evening’s Gala Awards Night.

Lifeboat was also nominated for the Richard Houghton Award for “Outstanding Contribution” for the realistic set depicting the many aspects of the story….but the real accolades must go to Sam and Millie and the Director, Rodney Pearson. More photographs from the Festival can be seen on the Festival website, www.leatherheaddramafestival.org.  Photographs by www.andynewboldphotography.com
