‘Ladies’ Day’

Ladies Day WEB imageOur Spring production from award-winning Cobham Players was an engaging comedy “with a heart of gold”

‘Ladies’ Day’  by Amanda Whittington is set in 2005 when Royal Ascot moved to York.  The main characters are four women who work together in a fish factory. Work, love and life are just one hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley, and Linda.  But their fortunes are set to change when Linda finds tickets to Ladies’ Day. Out go the hairnets, overalls and wellies as the four ditch work, do themselves up to the nines and head off to the races for a drink, a flirt and a flutter.  If their luck holds they could hit the jackpot – and a lot more besides.

The director, Jason Lambert assembled a first-class cast and crew. Pearl, Jan, Shelley, and Linda were played by Karen Budd, Jean Burgess, Mel Cook and Beth Barrett respectively. The men they encountered during their day were played by Graham Budd, Keith Burgess, Phil Paul and Jason Lambert.

This is a very popular play based around women – a comedy with pathos…..

“With its Yorkshire heart and soul it has all the warmth of a Calendar Girls or a Full Monty” – Yorkshire Post.  “Exuberantly up-to-the-minute comedy” – Guardian.
